At this day and age casinos are kind of a relic. Why go to a seconhand smoke infested and obnoxious facility off a highway to lose your savings when you can do that from the comfort of your home on a smartphone or laptop. Most people with a gambling addiction get their fix from online poker or even microtransactions in mobile games. You can say it's about the destination and making memories but at that point just invest in an actual vacation and play Texas hold em on an app. Why pay out the ass for transportation and a hotel for something that is essentially a common service like everything else. No amount of overpriced dining or entertainment justifies that setup just to touch a greasy slot machine. It seems like an experience tailored to an older generation. At this point most people are aware how predatory casinos are and dont buy into the "winning millions" bullshit.
submitted by My Grandfather died 3 months ago due to complications with his liver, he was a heavy drinker so I was counting the days until it was inevitable, I and my grandfather were best friends so I accepted that he will die a long time ago, my family has constantly criticised me for the lack of emotion I showed. My grandfather was a war veteran who served in world war II, when he died he left me a valuable knife that he used in Normandy along with a couple of photos and a diary that documented his everyday life during the war, unfortunately, I was the only family member who inherited these items as I was the closest to him.
Due to current financial problems, I am broke, I have little to no money to my name due to my problems battling addiction with gambling in casinos and drinking. Unfortunately, I have fallen in bad times and need to pay back my loans, I offered to pay my debts with my grandfather's war antiques but my family is highly against this decision as they view it as a great dishonour that I would give up my grandfathers legacy to debt collectors, my sister begged me not to and even offered to pay for them, but she was not offering me enough money, only half of the market value. As a result, I sold all of it, every single antique, and I managed to have enough money to pay rent.
Today I was sitting on my sister's couch drinking a beer when my sister barged into the living room screaming at me for selling valuable items for the sake of money, I tried to explain to her that I was in poverty and needed every cent otherwise I would be evicted from my rented house. I got mad at her and told her that my grandfather loved me more and trusted me with these antiques as I would honour them. My sister and brother forced me out of her house.
Reddit AITA for being desperate and trying to pull myself out of poverty?
EDIT 1: I would like to mention that I did not sell these antiques first, I sold my car and took on some credit card loans in order to survive.
EDIT 2: I have been in a long discussion with my family and in order for me to be accepted back I would have to enter rehab, I am currently enrolled in a centre and hope to remove my demons. Thank you reddit
submitted by My father died last year unexpectedly in a car accident. His will left everything to my brother and I. My parents were middle class and as far as we thought, their only significant assets were their house, some jewelry and antiques. My brother wanted the house and I let him buy my share when the estate was settled. A few months later he was remodeling and discovered a hidden compartment under carpet in Dad's office. Inside there was $238,000 in cash.
We don't know how Dad got the money. He never said anything about it. The bills range in age from the 1970s to the 2010s, and my brother thinks Dad was hoarding cash his whole life. I don't think so, because when my Mom was ill with cancer (she died 10 years ago) they got so deep in debt that they had to borrow $25,000 from me. The only thing I can think of is that he made it gambling. He wasn't a big time casino guy but did enjoy a trip to Vegas every year or two.
My brother wants to split the cash and keep it a secret. He said to just spend it over years in small increments, on things like groceries or clothes. I'm not comfortable with this for several reasons. One because I don't want that much cash laying around, but mostly because I am worried about the repercussions if we get caught. I am also worried about reporting the cash to authorities because I worry the cash may be connected to something illegal.
My Dad lived in North Carolina and so does my brother. I live in Virginia.
I want to know the potential legal consequences of keeping the money without reporting it. Also, is there a possibility the money could be seized in an investigation, and never returned or held for years? My brother thinks that would happen.

submitted by Tinder swipes, friend-zoned, an fwb, emotional attachments, and job relocation.
What if there was a tinder for a therapist? But the best past, it was a mutual feeling where you both felt at home, needed, desirable, and whatever else you wished for.
We swiped right for reasons different than mine, but in the same sense, we had someone else on our minds. Just two people trying to find a way through a pandemic, to be distracted and feel another way. Someone to cuddle up with while watching horror movies during the late summers, early autumn days like blossoming pumpkins. She hardly knew her left from her right. She did not know what paint markings on a hiking trail were for, maybe for the directional challenged, but I guided her along.
We fell softly like a leaf from the grips of an old oak. The chilly late October has been weighing on my mind for several weeks now. It was one of our adventures to antique shops and finding the cheapest thrifty clothing. Her knack for finding the sweaters brought out her warmth. Oddly, she mentioned the NBA, and our conversation spun off to casinos because she never been in one. And yes, there was one nearby.
I took the quick detour, followed through the doors, and walked her around a place that did not seem anything much more than a saddening destination. She found herself waging her only money on a piece of pizza. We grabbed a chair at the nearby table and began to talk. The fall was not always the easiest for me as the seasonal depression held me tightly. We talked about the things we miss about our ex’s, gave each other advice; I received more advice than her. By the end of the conversation, we seemingly found ourselves as friends.
We tucked the chairs by the table and left for the next antique shop.
————
For all of what I said, the friends part was short-lived. A week or two later, we began finding adventure in one another again. We were now becoming an fwb. The 'i'm upset' texts were not chores, more of a way of comforting way of our affection. We talked about our dates, our mental state of being. We began to connect in the manner that you want to connect.
I misplaced my car in a city, and she was there for me. It was one of those chilly, rainy autumn days. A day where I slipped mentally. She was there, just like I have been for her. I found my car with a ticket. Maybe I should have been more careful, even if our boundaries and communication were outstanding.
A week later I found myself driving on a personal adventure for an interview. The next day, I found myself on a day date at the beach. Unlike the hiking trails, she was better at finding her away along the waterfront. Our discussions were what I always enjoyed. They were meaningful, inspiring; you see, we both struggle with depression. We were good at pushing one another to achieve our best, challenge our fears, and get the most out of one another.
But this last weekend. It was planned and filled with uncertainty as I accepted a job elsewhere. If she could not sense it from me, I do not know what to say. I could sense it from her; besides, she loves my cooked potato mash bites. As our weary eyes shut, we tossed and turned throughout the night. With each awaking toss, one would roll to their opposite side, and the other could only follow with a full embrace of one's arms. We never spoke about being anything more you could tell we wanted more than a friend. We became the best of friends.
She packed her things the next morning and walked out the door. I called her back for a hug, a one-armed hug. Later a text about how this has become too difficult to carry because of her strong feelings about me.
—————
Mind you we have become each other's therapists in some capacity. I found myself searching, and she was okay, healing the ashes. She would not have found herself on a map I gave her the direction.
I'm not ready to move on, as she suggests, because I have admired her growth.
I have never seen someone grow so remarkably beautiful and confidentially as her. There was so much I should have said; there was so much I said. I wish I knew what to say now.
I struggle with saying what I mean.

Complete a Life Complete a full life All you have to do for this one is die. You probably have it by now, but if you're super attached to your first Bitizen, you can always save your Bitlife and play somebody else wastefully or hold out until they pass.
Octogenarian See your 80th birthday Nonagenarian 90th birthday Centenarian 100th birthday Super-centarian 110th birthday Mega-centarian 120th birthday Get on a healthy diet and garden and meditate twice a year. I like Nutrisystem. It's expensive, but I have advice for managing that below...
Strong Genes Achieve a 500-year generation Long Lineage 1000-year generation Living Legacy 5000-year generation Never don't have kids. I like leaving everything to the youngest child and playing as them, but that won't make your kids happy with you or your heir. Your call. Either way, it helps to have a couple Bitlifes going in case you get tired of living carefully. Sometimes you're gonna want to be more reckless, you know?
WEALTH
Millionaire Become a millionaire My Second Million Achieve a net worth of $2m Now that we have Royalty and Sports, this is a lot easier. Traditionally, if you're hot (95%+), drop out of high school and get your GED ($1k, you can do that in a couple years of dog walking/freelance gigs) and wait for a singer or actor career. If not, work hard in school and go to the gym often. Check your parents' stats and if they're generous make sure you pass your drivers test (maybe even ask if you can get a nicer one! immediately sell your car, they lose value fast) and take a martial art. It's much cheaper if they pay for it ($1K per tier in some countries) and gets you in good shape. If you're athletic, grind at a sport from middle school onwards. If you're not, try some athletic-adjacent clubs and go to the gym and for walks often. Pets count as additional walks which you can take from age 8+. When you're in good shape you can get a soccer scholarship (which can become a/)or a professional sports contract. More sports tips below, same with other careers. Basically try to get famous, not through politics. Or be hot and marry rich/have rich parents who die/be royal.
Multimillionaire Achieve a net worth of $10m Rich Net worth of $20m Super Rich Net worth of $50m Stinking Rich Net worth of $100m Get a couple million first, then invest it in real estate. Or do ads if you're famous and it won't ruin your career. Helps to be big on social media for influence on that stuff. Fix up 1M+ houses and flip them when they've hit a value of 2 or 3 million. If you've got great karma or you're a religious figure of some kind, exorcise some mansions. You can do it all that way, or keep grinding careers.
Bitionaire Achieve a net worth of $1b It's hard to get here from 0. Helps to leave everything to your youngest kid before you die after living a long, fruitful life. You can let your kid "take over" your assets at any time without tax now, that's the best way to do it. Then as soon as they're 18 make them famous/invest in real estate and repeat.
CAREER
Actor Become an actor Be hot. You can drop out at 16 and get your GED for $1k (ask your parents for money or do freelance gigs for a couple of years). If you're not, go to the gym and for walks often. Pets count as additional walks which you can take from age 8+. Grind at a sport in school if you can to keep your health well and get plastic surgery at 18. Generally if your appearance stats are low it's either a nose job or liposuction that will fix it. Always go to the best plastic surgeon. Marry rich if you have to or work for a couple years if you have to, but start the career as soon as you can. Always work 5 more hours a week than required and compliment your supervisor if their coolness is high. Sleep with people in Hollywood (bosses coworkers etc). Your spouse/parent will generally be mad if you're in rude magazines, so hold off on dating unless they're cool or make them deal with it.
Airplane Pilot Become an airline captain Grind in school and keep your mental health well. No drugs but drink if you feel like it, just make sure you can go to AA or whatever. Always work 5 more hours a week than required and compliment your supervisor if their coolness is high. If you're rich and you've inherited an airplane or you can afford lessons, take them. Go to University for a science thing that isn't biology lol. Start your Pilot Apprentice job.
At Inner Peace Work 75 years as a monk Follow my longevity tips above and don't party or drink or do drugs. Always be honest. Meditate. Don't date.
Candywriter Work for Bitlife Be born in Tampa, United States. Go to university for Information Systems. You'll get the achievement right away when you're hired.
CEO Become a CEO Go to school for Finance. Get a job. Work hard every year.
Dentist Become a dentist Go to university for biology, then dental school. Work hard every year.
Doctor Become a doctor Go to university for biology, then medical school. Work hard every year.
Fire Chief Become a fire chief Stay in good shape. Work hard every year.
Jack Of All Trades Have 10 careers in one life Work at retail and food service jobs for less than a year, then go to university to get even more opportunities. Keep going for different paths.
Judge Become a judge Lawyer Become a lawyer Go to school for english. Go to law school. Work hard every year.
Last Resort Seduce your boss to save your job Be hot. Work fewer hours than required at your job. Make sure your supervisor is attracted to your gender and low professionalism. When your boss tries to fire you, seduce them.
People Person Start with your less popular coworkers and work your way up. Pay attention to their stats so you know what they want. Get hard-to-get people with Bitlife Bitizenships ($5).
Combat
Armed & Dangerous Kill someone with a learned martial art move Get to the top level of a martial art, (especially in prison) pick someone old to attack. Start a fight with them.
Midieval Attack Get attacked with a midieval weapon Kinda chance. Just keep picking fights. You can get into a lot of fights if you're rude at nightclubs or to people on the street. Sometimes if you attack your loved ones or enemies with a weapon they'll kill you with a sword or something.
No Grasshopper Earn the top belt in a martial art Each martial art has 10 tiers. They can cost $1k+ if you're an adult so if you've got generous parents take advantage.
Sensei San Earn the top belt in every martial art Have health above 50% when you take a martial arts lesson. Follow above tips. Parents will probably only pay for one set of lessons, so pay for the other arts yourself as an adult. At $10k per martial art, it will probably cost you $40k-$50k.
Disease
Addicted Sustain 3 addictions at once Play Blackjack or go to the horse races often with mid-tier mental health. Get addicted to pills or some other hard non-psychedelic drugs. Start drinking last b/c it'll kill your health. Try not to let your Bitizen get depressed or you might die, lol. All addiction is dangerous so it may take a few tries.
Bubonic Plague Contract the bubonic plague Have low health and luck out. I got it in the UK.
Foam at the Mouth Contract rabies Try to take home every wild animal you see. One might bite you. If you succeed, take it to the vet. If it doesn't have rabies, release it. If it does, don't treat it! Take it home and bathe it until it bites you.
Sickly Contract 10 diseases in one life Best if you're not vaccinated, but just have mid-tier health and be really social. All afflictions count.
Successful Rehab Have rehab cured at a rehab center Go to fancy rehab if you can afford it. Do it from your military deployment to go AWOL.
Witchcraft Get cured of a disease by the witch doctor Eye of newt and cow tongue are iffy. Always start with health at 100. They've fixed cancer and sickle cell for me.
Entertainment
BitBoi Watch Bijuu Mike on YouTube BTS ARMY Go to a BTS concert Keep asking friends to watch YouTube/go to concerts every year until you get those options.
Movie Junkie Go to 5 movies in one life Moviegoer Go to a movie Go to the movies every year. It's good for your relationship if you go with somebody.

Smart Seed Get artificially inseminated with lawyer sperm Start at 18. You have to be cis. Be fertile (tips above). Keep pulling up the option to get artificially inseminated until a lawyer comes up. Don't listen to your partner if they don't want you to do it LOL.

Don't abandon any kids but leave girlfriends as soon as they're pregnant. Hire every surrogate that will take you if it's legal. Sue them for the max ($200k) if they bail (not miscarry).
